We are 100% Canterbury owned and operated chain of tyre service outlets committed to providing Canterbury drivers with the very best products and services. It’s been that way since 1946, when Len Neumann first set up business in Ashburton to service the Mid- Canterbury region. Today 60 years on, the company has grown to include The Tyre General Christchurch and The Tyre General South Canterbury (based in Temuka). As a group, we can draw on years of expertise gained from specialists in every tyre category. It’s this experience that enables us to identify the best tyres for the job, no matter what the job is and we only stock the best. Because we’re serious about giving you the best performance whether you drive a car, light truck, heavy truck, tractor, earthmover or a forklift.

Tyres are the Neumann's life as they grew up with tyres, working at their father's Ashburton tyre outlet after school and on weekends. When it was time to leave school and look for a job, it was only natural that they should choose to work for their father. 20 plus years on, and Alan and Ian are joint Managing Directors of the Group. Alan's responsibilities cover The Tyre General Christchurch, The Tyre General South Canterbury and Tyre Retreaders Christchurch. Alan Neumann is also the Chief executive of Golden Bay Tyres as well as Neumanns Tyre Group. Ian is responsible for Neumann's Tyres Ashburton. Along with a passion for tyres, the brothers other shared interests include breeding race horses, cricket and rugby. Both are married, with young families. |
Bandag Retread Manufacturing

In 1996, we purchased the Bandag retread manufacturing plant in Christchurch in conjunction with General Tyres Southern. We renamed it Tyre Retreaders (ChCh) Ltd to reinforce the local focus of our business. By keeping the retreading in-house, we have total quality control over the entire process. It also means you get a rapid turn around in as little as two or three days. It's good news for Canterbury fleet owners too. You don't need to stockpile tyres, simply get the retreads done as you need them. The manufacturing facility supplies Canterbury with a full range of precure Bandag retreads, for light and heavy trucks through to large earthmovers. And of course, it helps to keep everything local which is our focus and what we are all about. Paul was appointed factory manager of Tyre Retreaders (CHCH) Ltd in November 2002. Coming from The Tyre General, Paul has over 25 years experience in the tyre industry. |

Wayne has been part of the Neumanns Tyre Group since 1994. He has over 35 years experience in the tyre industry. He started a as fleet serviceman in Nelson, before moving on to work for a number of companies, including Dunlop (NZ) Ltd and Beaurepaires. When he's not talking tyres, Wayne interests include rugby and a weekly game of golf... He also acts as Sales & Marketing Manager for Tyre Retreaders (CHCH) Ltd. GOLDEN BAY TYRES LTD
The three branches listed under the Golden Bay Tyres Company are trading under the new banner as a result of Neumanns Tyre Group/General Tyres Company entering the Nelson Marlborough market in December 2005. All of the branches are fully involved in all sectors of the tyre market including mobile fleet/farm service vehicles available at all three outlets. They offer a wide range and choice of brands of new tyres along with the Bandag commercial retread product being marketed by all of the branches across the top of the South Island. We are also a preferred supplier to C.R.T.
